Costa Rican Tarrazú – Single Origin

Tucked into the lush mountains south of San José, the Tarrazú region is one of Costa Rica’s crown jewels of coffee cultivation. Here, cool nights and warm days mingle with mineral-rich volcanic soil, creating the perfect balance of stress and nourishment for coffee trees to thrive. Locals often call Tarrazú the “Land of Saints,” and it’s not hard to see why—this is hallowed ground for coffee lovers.

Our Costa Rican Tarrazú is roasted to a Light/Medium profile that highlights its vibrant clarity. Each sip greets you with a crisp brightness, almost citrusy at first, then softens into a smooth, clean sweetness with subtle notes of honey and almond. The body is light-to-medium, polished, and silky—never heavy, never muddy. This is a coffee that sparkles on the palate and leaves a refreshing finish that lingers just long enough to remind you of its elegance.

And like all our coffees at Roast To Order, we lock in that clarity and brightness by roasting only after you order, then shipping within 24 hours. When you brew it, you’re experiencing Tarrazú at its peak—alive, aromatic, and unmistakably fresh.

Why you’ll love it: Tarrazú is for those who crave a clean, sparkling cup that feels as refreshing as a cool mountain morning. Bright without being sharp, smooth without being flat—this coffee proves why Costa Rica is a name every coffee drinker should know.

Customers praised the taste and aroma, with one saying they switched from another brand. However, some noted beans appeared oily and over-roasted beyond the advertised light/medium level, affecting the flavor profile. Mixed experiences with roast consistency.

Top Notch Beans No Broken Pieces

I’m a coffee nerd. So I try a lot of online roasters. I’m Moka pot or French press only. I only like low to zero acidity & actually tasting the notes a must. Most of the times I’m sorry I gave a company a try. I tried a roaster in San Fran that was $50 a 1lb bag. Yes it was good but seriously. Roast to Order is better. Roast to Order is what I always end up back at. I get 4 bags every 2-3 weeks. From order to door is 3-5 days depending if I order on a weekend. Roast date stamped. The beans are almost 100% whole meaning not any bits & pieces as with other roasters. That’s quality folks. Highly recommend any beans. I’ve tried almost everything except the floral stuff. The Colombian is my absolute favorite. What a flavor zero acid. You can taste the chocolate like a Dove chocolate bar. My go to roaster.

I thought that the beans were a little oily

I thought that the beans were a little oily. I have purchased the Tarrazu from other roasters and they did not have an oily appearance. I use a pour over method and the tase seemed off compared to other Tarrazu beans.

Disappointed

I certainly am no coffee expert, but I know that when coffee beans have been roasted to the extent of expressing oils on the surface of the beans and are very dark, such as these, that they have been roasted well beyond the "Light/Medium" stage described on your website. Likewise, the flavor profile of "Honey. Almond. Bright Citrus" no longer exists in thyese beans roasted to this stage.
