Java Dutch Estate

$15.95

Started from the Dutch, who planted the first Arabica trees on the Indonesian island of Java early in coffee's history. It's name has become synonymous with coffee and is often the standard for which all other coffees are measured.

From the highlands of Java, where the high altitude and volcanic soil provide ideal growing conditions. The Jampit Estate was established by the Dutch in the 18th century, and is now run by the government. Unlike most processing from Indonesia, the coffee from Jampit is fully washed, which gives the coffee a clean, balanced profile.

Java's finest golden beans are roasted to yield a piquant aroma and displays an exquisite acid balance, a heavy body with hints of chocolate-like undertones and a quicker finish than most other Sumatran coffee beans.

Great coffee.

OK, but darker than anticipated

This was listed in the "medium" roast category, but from the moment I opened the bag it smelled darker, and tasted more Vienna than a medium roast.
Still, it is palatable, but bitter notes come in when it cools down.

Maybe my new favorite?

I've been drinking No Name Java for what seems like a good decade. They won me over at the Saturday Market with a cup of Father's Best, which many of my friends consider the best coffee in the world (We are well traveled), but this one may be a touch more my style. It is smooth, not very bitter, and has a very rich taste. I enjoyed it immensely in my French Press. I need to get more of this and hide it from my coworkers.

Top-rated stuff. Even the mailman agrees.

The mailman delivered a box of Java Estate "Blawan" and tried to invite himself in for a cup. "Smell it," he said, "I've been steeping in that aroma all afternoon on my route. It's smells great." The guy knows his coffee. It's a smooth brew, but not dull or wooden, like some of the store-bought specialties. I typically add cream to my coffee, but this bean I take black eveytime; I really enjoy the chocolaty depths of this roast. Top-rated stuff. Even the mailman agrees.
